Växjö University

The city of Växjö is an exciting combination of an idyllic small town, university town and center of entertainment – a strong regional center in the middle of the south of Sweden.
Växjö University, which is a young university, have chosen to compete with one of their office buildings, called K. The property company Videum, have had an energy saving project concentrating on optimizing heating, cooling and ventilation for all of the universities facilities. The University facility manager Mrs. Christel Olsson thought that Energy Trophy was the next step for them to take in becoming even more energy efficient. Further Mrs. Olsson says "The challenge is to get every individual to be aware that every little thing they do matters". växjö_university
The competition is managed like an ordinary project with a main project group and smaller expert groups for ex information, computers, lightning etc. The main purpose is to examine the possibilities for energy savings in the expert groups and continuously inform the employees about viable measures and there potentials.
The information is shown on a screen in the main entrance. Further information as statistics and real savings are also shown on the screen. They regularly post electrical newsletters with competition related information. The employees can give suggestions to the project in a box by the entrance and by e-mail. So far they have reduced the operational time for and the number of lights in public areas. In rooms that demand reservation they change the time for ventilation according to the reservation list. The time for energy saving mode in printers and copying machines have been reduced to a minimum.
